Craven County Sheriff’s Department Seminar

On Tuesday, March 10, at the FH Community Center, Sgt. Dan Garden and investigator Jeff Bernard of CCSD were guest speakers at the spring Fairfield Harbour Neighborhood Watch community event. The topics included securing one’s home and car more effectively, preventing or at least watching out for personal identity theft, and avoiding becoming a victim of scams.

Sgt. Garden’s most surprising statistic was that identity theft is the highest incidence of crime in Fairfield Harbour! It is also the fastest growing crime in our country.

With so much material to cover in only an hour, Sgt. Garden’s presentation was necessarily comprehensive and informative but still allowed time for all questions to be answered. He assured the crowd that he could spend three full days on just these subjects!

Also on the program was FH’s own Sandy Santacroce, head of Security for Fairfield Harbour. She urged each resident of the Harbour to update their emergency information to keep on hand at the guard shack. This is vital to allowing Security to gain entry into a home in an emergency and also a local contact as well as an out-of-state contact. These forms are available at the guard shack and the POA office. Sandy also assured those present that no one other than the guards have access to your information.

Sgt. Garden’s Power Point Presentation and handouts in PDF format are available via email request to neighborhoodwatch28560@gmail.com. Also DVD videos of the entire event are available via request to the same email address. There will be a cost of $5 each to reproduce. Checks may be made payable to FHNW.

Mark your calendars for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, 2015
