YMCA Hosts Sunfish Worlds in Pamlico Waters

The Sunfish Worlds is an annual regatta with participants from all over the world. This October 10th – October 18th, the YMCA camps Seafarer and Sea Gull, located on the Neuse River, have hosted this world event, welcoming upwards of 112 participants from Peru, Argentina, Bermuda, Bonaire, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and the United States. The event began with three days of youth racing, participants age 19 and younger, followed by open age racing. The sunfish is 14-foot sailboat that has one sail, typically one racer and is considered by many as the most popular recreational sailboat in history.
